I just realized I promised this blog and never delivered! So here it is! I did not have dread teenage years. I thought teen age years were a blast! My kids were old enough to enjoy and I trained them well as kids, so it was not hard.
I think teens is where you reap what you sowed in the elementary age. If you accept a bit of disrespect when they are young, you will get tons of disrespect when they are older.

It's that time again! Life just seems to fly by when you are having fun and I always have fun when I'm at our Martial Arts School! We only have 6 opportunities per year for rank advancement and even though it seems like the last rank advancement was just yesterday, it really wasn't.
So why do we make such a big deal about rank advancement and testing? Because we have seen historically how to be a successful martial arts athlete! We have seen over and over, the students who have the greatest success in our program are the ones who take advantage of every opportunity to better them selves, which includes rank advancement.read more

What does being a black belt and being a child mean? Are we saying by letting kids earn black belts that we think they are able to defend themselves in any situation?
Honestly my goal of teaching taekwondo is NOT to teach self-defense as much as it is to teach kids self-control. I want teach kids the wisdom needed to live a life that never needs self-defense. To me what the kids get out of their martial arts journey is so much more meaningful than simply self-defense or how to fight.read more
