Intermediate & Advanced Karate Training
Warrior Program
Students continue working through Skill Card milestones and clear rank requirements, advancing when readiness is consistently demonstrated on the mat.
Teen Karate Program
Students work through a Skill Card and a series of clear milestones — stripes earned within each belt — advancing when skill and readiness are consistently demonstrated, not when a calendar date arrives.
Adult Karate Program
Students work through a Skill Card and a series of clear milestones within each belt, progressing at their own pace within clear standards — no group test dates, no separate testing fees, just consistent improvement.
Karate Summer Camps
Camp does not include belt promotions. Students leave with improved skills, stronger focus, and conditioning that carries into their regular training.
Why Pflugerville Families Choose Rise
Rise Martial Arts is organized around the conditions that make real student development possible — not just scheduled activity.
Students train in age and development-specific programs rather than one broad class. As students move into the core progression programs, progress is tracked through Skill Cards, which show students and parents exactly what has been completed, what needs work, and what is required for the next step.
Character development is coached through the Warrior Keys framework — a structured coaching language used by instructors during class, not just a list of values on a wall.
Belt advancement is based on demonstrated readiness, not a calendar date or a separate testing event. Rise does not charge belt testing fees and does not require term contracts.
Rise has served Pflugerville families since 1999, with three generations of the Barkley family teaching side-by-side and shaping the school’s standards on the mat.
With over 100+ five-star reviews, Rise Martial Arts is one of Pflugerville’s most trusted karate schools — for kids, teens, and adults alike.
How the Rise Progression System Works
Skill Cards Track Every Step
In the Foundation, Warrior, Teen, and Adult programs, students work through a Skill Card — a structured record of the skills required for their current belt. Skill Cards show what has been completed, what still needs work, and what is required before advancement. Students and parents can see exactly where the student stands at any point in their training.
Stripes Are Earned, Not Assigned
Within each belt, students earn stripes by demonstrating specific skills and readiness in class. When all stripe requirements are complete and final readiness standards are met, the student is ready for the next belt. The belt is awarded in class — no separate testing event, no additional fee.
No Belt Testing Fees
Belt advancement at Rise is part of the instructional process. Students are not charged a separate fee to test for or receive a new belt. Some martial arts schools charge testing fees as part of the advancement process. At Rise, the only cost of advancement is the training itself. Every belt reflects real development, not a calendar date or an extra payment.
What Mastery-Based Means in Practice
Students advance when their skills, focus, and readiness are consistently demonstrated — not when a date on a schedule arrives. A student who needs more time gets more time. A student who demonstrates readiness advances. The system is designed so that when a belt is earned, it means something.

What can karate help my child with?
Karate training at Rise develops two things through the same class: technical skill and internal capacity. Technically, students build coordination, movement control, striking skill, and physical confidence. Internally, students develop focus, the ability to receive correction, persistence through difficulty, and composure under pressure. Parents often notice changes in how their child handles frustration, follows instructions, and responds to challenges at home and at school. These are not separate programs — they are built through the same structured training experience.
How do I get started?
The first step is scheduling a free class. New students attend a regular class with their age group — no uniform needed, comfortable athletic clothes are fine. Parents are welcome to stay and watch. After the class, a Rise instructor will answer questions about the program, the progression system, and what enrollment looks like. No commitment is required to try a class.
